Aims and Principles of Cardiff YMCA

The YMCA is a movement with Christian principles at its heart. It stands for:

•A world-wide fellowship based on the equal value of all persons, respect and freedom for all.

•Tolerance and understanding between people of different backgrounds.

•An active concern for the needs of the community.

The YMCA aims to be an equal opportunities employer and service provider. Although the origins of our organisation come from a Christian basis we welcome people of all faiths and beliefs and of none to use our services. We are an organisation that values diversity and promotes equal opportunities.

The YMCA aims to:

•Provide a welcome to members for themselves, in a meeting place that is theirs to share, where friendships can be made and counsel sought.

•Develop activities which stimulate and challenge its members in an environment that enables them to take responsibility and find a sense of achievement.

•Involve all members in care and work for others.

•Create opportunities for exchanging views so that its members can improve their understanding of the world, of themselves and of one another.

Creatively responding to the needs of the community since 1844

Our Badge

The red triangle became the Association logo of the British YMCA during the First World War; 1914-18.

The triangle suggests the whole person: its three sides representing the Body, Mind & Spirit.

When all three aspects are developed a balanced personality is achieved.
