YMCA Chess Club

Cardiff YMCA Chess Club have been a membership group of Cardiff YMCA for many years, and have been in existence for over 100 years!

Members can enjoy the playing of chess on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7.00pm to 10.30pm. Tuesday evening is open to all members. Wednesday evening is open mainly to senior members; junior members can play their club championship or league games only.

The Club has nine teams playing league chess within the East Glamorgan Chess League (who run 4 divisions). We run a yearly Junior & Senior Club Championship (all play all). Our teams enter in many Welsh run events. The club's top team have represented the club in the European Club Team Championships on many occasions. We have a healthy membership of around 80 members with grades ranging from 2403 down to 1062 a wide variety of playing strength.

The league season starts in September and ends in the following April. During the summer we run a summer programme of events every Tuesday night which is open to visitors as well as members. Details of the Summer programme are available on the Clubs own website.

As usual the Club helped to organise the junior championships for Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan counties, with their own junior members enjoying much success.

Junior members of the Club have represented Wales in international tournaments.

A warm welcome is extended to any new members who wish to join the Club, whether to learn to play or to improve their skills.
